hispanic ministry

The office of Hispanic Ministry provides the Hispanic community with religious guidance, support and information on matters both secular and religious. It works to help the Hispanic community become self-sufficient, while guiding them toward a commitment to serve the Church, sharing with others the good news of salvation.

Programs offered by the Hispanic Ministry office and/or in collaboration with other Diocesan offices include:

The Hispanic/Latino Community continues to grow significantly
in our Diocese. There are parishes whose congregation is 50-90 percent Hispanic. There has also been a notable presence of Hispanic families, youth and young adults at parish and diocesan events.  For this reason, it is important to provide Spanish and bilingual programs that are culturally competent to enhance the faith of Hispanic Catholics.
We are a small office serving a large number of Hispanic Catholics in our diocese. In order to offer the above programs and resources we rely on God’s providence and the generosity of Catholic Charities.

Our office is focusing on three of the top recommendations proposed at the V Encuentro Process:
1.  Hispanic Youth and Young Adults
2. Evangelization and Mission
3. Family Ministry

The Office of Hispanic Ministry continues to provide evangelization and formation opportunities. In August of 2019 we held a diocesan mission in six of our parishes.  Nearly 8,000 people attended this mission, many on the verge of leaving the Catholic faith. The School of Ministries Evangelization School completed its second year at the end of 2019, with one hundred and seven participants from seventeen different parishes throughout the diocese completing all ten classes.

Our office works closely with Hispanic Ministry Parish Ambassadors and is committed to assisting them and their Pastors, building a strong Pastoral de Conjunto (Communion in Mission).
All the work and services we provide could not be possible without God’s providence and the generosity of Catholic Charities donors. Our office and the Hispanic Community are grateful to all who contribute to the Catholic Charities Campaign and for their continued support!
